The presence of several Indian-origin players on the Canadian team, including Shreyas Movva, Navneet Dhaliwal, Pargat Singh, and Ravinderpal Singh, added a unique twist to the social media banter. Pargat, who has experience playing in India’s domestic circuit, expressed his mixed emotions about facing India. “There is a different feeling when you play against your home country. But professionally, we are ready to play against India,” he told ANI.
India now advances to the Super 8s with a total of 7 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.137, topping the Group A table. In contrast, Canada, with only three points, has been eliminated from the tournament. The Indian team’s journey to the Super 8s has been impressive, marked by consecutive victories. They began by defeating Ireland, followed by a win against arch-rivals Pakistan, and securing a hard-fought victory over co-hosts, the USA. The USA has also progressed to the Super 8s after their game against Ireland was washed out.
With Canada, Pakistan, and Ireland now out of the tournament, the focus shifts to the final matches in Group A. Pakistan will play their last game against Ireland on Sunday in Florida, marking the end of the group stage.
