Pune Police Arrest Father After Teen’s Fatal Porsche Crash

Crash

The Pune Police have arrested Vishal Agrawal, the father of a 17-year-old boy who was involved in a fatal crash with his speeding Porsche into a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Agrawal, a real estate developer, was apprehended in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, after evading arrest following the registration of a case against him on May 20.

The fatal incident occurred early Sunday morning in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar locality, where the Porsche, driven by the minor, collided with a motorcycle carrying two tech professionals, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Ashwini died instantly, while Aneesh succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to a hospital. The minor was granted bail within 14 hours of his detention, which led to public outrage.

Vishal Agrawal faces charges under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Additionally, three bar executives were detained for serving alcohol to the minor. The arrested individuals include Cosie restaurant owner Pralhad Bhutda, manager Sachin Katkar, and Hotel Black manager Sandip Sangle. CCTV footage showing the minor consuming alcohol in one of the bars emerged, leading to the arrests.

The incident timeline indicates that the teenager and his friends partied at Cozy Bar until midnight and then continued at Black Bar until 1 am. The crash occurred at approximately 3:15 am on Sunday. The juvenile’s treatment by police, including allegations of being served pizza and burgers, and the intervention of an MLA from the Ajit Pawar NCP faction, has drawn criticism from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who called for the sacking of the Pune police commissioner.

Family members of the victims expressed their grief and called for stringent actions against reckless driving. Ashwini Koshta’s father, Suresh, lamented the loss of their dreams, while her brother, Sampreet, emphasized the need for strict measures to prevent similar incidents. Aneesh Awadhiya’s uncle, Akhilesh, criticized the lenient bail conditions for the minor, labeling him a “human bomb.”

The minor, who received bail from the Juvenile Justice Board, was instructed to study traffic rules and write an essay on road accidents. Pune Police plan to petition a higher court to try the teenager as an adult. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar assured that no effort would be spared in proving the gravity of the crime. Eyewitnesses reported that three people were in the Porsche at the time of the crash, with one fleeing the scene. All occupants were allegedly intoxicated.
